Why Get a Pre-Purchase Inspection?

So, you are ready to buy that “pristine” used car. Wouldn’t it be nice to find out before you dole out your hard-earned dollars if the vehicle is truly worth the price? At AutoScope, we routinely provide this service to our customers, and some have saved as much as $10,000 in post-purchase repair costs by effectively negotiating the purchase price because they have advance knowledge of the pending problems that require repair.

Once you have identified the vehicle you want to purchase, but before negotiating the price, bring (or have brought) to us the prospect vehicle for a thorough examination. We will perform a comprehensive series of tests on the vehicle, and provide you with a written report, as well as a rough estimate of repair costs. Armed with this information, you can then negotiate-down the purchase price, which should totally (or even partially) pay for the repairs after purchase.

As part of our Pre-Purchase Inspection service, we conduct a comprehensive set of tests and examinations that include:

  • Dynamic Test: We test-drive the vehicle and check for performance, handling, braking, balance, vibrations, noise & rattles, heating, cooling, air-conditioning, and overall feel for the vehicle.
  • Static Test: We attach proper diagnostic equipment and tools and check for electrical, electronic, and other sub-systems’ proper functioning and hidden problem codes.
  • Interior and Exterior: We check the interior controls (power windows, door locks, instrument panel, lighting, alarms, sun-roof and convertible top, and so on.) We also check the exterior for prior damage repair, proper fit and finish of all panels, and condition of paint and trim.
